Task 1: Professional Media Practice
Task A:
During our meeting with the
clients, we have been told that the host country changes every year. World
environment day encourages people to be more aware in order to save our
environment. This year’s host for World Environment day is Pakistan, and
Ecosystem Restoration is the theme that they will focus on.
Degradation of ecosystems consists
of:
· Pollution
· Habitat
· Loss of
Biodiversity
· Habitat
destruction such as deforestation
· Resource
explotation
Ecosystem restoration can be done
through many ways, such as : Afforestation, improving water quality and
sustainable fishing
Do not's:
Do nots are essential regarding our project. We need to be aware of these, as due to the pandemic, we need to follow rules and regulations to be able to do our project. Consent forms are essential as part of the do not’s, without them it will spark a huge controversy. Also, putting the farmer’s life into danger during filming is something to keep under consideration. Breaking Covid-19 regulations is another important do not that needs to be kept in mind. All the do not’s mentioned above are all fundamental to the project.
Shotlist:
Inspiration 1: Malta
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn6SyiZD3cM
This video inspired me a lot, as
it is showing the beautiful of Malta and some interesting parts of Malta that I
have never seen before. This video shows every aspect of Malta, from fishing to
farming, capital cities, church, the red tower and the legendary Dwejra.
The part that caught my attention
was when he showed the farmer harvesting his fields. My grandfather himself is
a farmer, so it gave me lots if ideas that I can include in my project. The sea
is another part, which I was inspired from.
The drone shots were sensational,
showing the sea from the upper side of Malta, bringing the greatness of the
island. Also, bringing up to context the tradition of the Maltese people, such
as people attending to the churches, which is part of the Maltese tradition. In
the end, he finished with showing the capital city of Malta, Valletta. The
inclusion of Valletta residents in their homes, Is something that shows the
beauty of the capital city of the country.
Inspiration 2:
https://www.moabiterpflanze.com/en/the-beauty-of-the-ocean/
This is article inspired me a
lot, talking about the beauty of the sea itself and the way that everyone
should protect it. Sometimes, people use the ocean’s as a form of garbage,
which is shocking to see in this modern world. Mentioning the fact there are projects
in place to save the oceans, gives us new hope that the oceans will be clean
for a substantial amount of time.
This inspired me a lot, so I decided to
include sea and oceans in my project, to show the beauty of it and the reason
for us to protect the ocean from every aspect. We need to protect our environment,
especially our beautiful oceans and seas, and I want to raise awareness of how
much harm we are doing to the water of the seas.
The inclusion of photos inspired me a lot,
where it shows the beauty of nature alongside seas and the weather combined. At
the end of the article, she mentions the power of society, where she was
inspired from Greta Thunberg, the 15-year-old girl that raised awareness over
the environment.
Inspiration 3:
This article tackles the
environmental awareness, where it emphasizes the fact that before starting an
environmental campaign, you must have a good understanding about the
environment. The report provides the community with all the necessary tips,
introducing courses, group gatherings and brochures.
This affected the approach of my
project, which gave me new ideas on how I can spread the message to people that
are endangering the environment. Types of environmental issues that the author
raised were Oil Drilling, Deforestation and production of plastic goods. One
issue that I want to raise in my project, which I took inspiration from, is
production of plastic goods.
In Malta, the Maltese community
tend to throw stuff in the environment and into the Mediterranean Sea. The
article also mentions that around 31 Million tons of plastic waste was thrown,
eventually ending on land and water. This is the topic that I want to give the
utmost importance to, due to similar events happening in our own country.
Inspiration 4:
https://www.soilassociation.org/causes-campaigns/save-our-soil/
This article focuses mainly on
soil, mentioning all the good aspects that soil offers to the human being. Healthy
soils helps the reduction of greenhouse gas and giving climate change a push
forward. I never knew the huge importance of soil for our daily life.
The writer also mentions that our
local farmers produce almost all our food from soil. Soil has the ability to
store water and filter it for around 1000 people in a year. This inspired me a
lot, showing how much soil is important to the community. Therefore, I want to
show the beauty of soil in our nature, the stuff that it can produce, and the
food that it provides to the people.
Another thing we must look at is
how much soil we are losing every day. With soil, I want to show how much we
appreciate our local farmers, working every day to produce food for us. With
their honesty and determination, we can live a healthy life, eating homemade
natural food.
Idea 1:
In my first idea/plan, I want to
influence other with the awareness I want to raise in my project. I want to
include every aspect of the environment and the ecosystem, such as sea water,
farming, the beauty of the environment and litter thrown randomly in public. We
have reserved spaces to throw litter In, including 5 types of waste boxes where
waste can be thrown into the right bin. The idea is to include different
dimensions into the project.
My plan is to film my grandfather
harvesting our field, like growing potatoes and cutting the vegetables that
grow in the field. Then, raising the awareness of litter thrown in public and
in sea is something I want to show in my video as well. Again, I want to show
the sea in a different new aspect, presenting it in the best natural way.
Another concept that I had in mind is, to go into public gardens and film the
beauty of the environment that we are luckily provided with. My thought was to
finish the project with a small message that can change people’s mentality in
the way they look to the environment.
Idea 2:
My second idea is very similar to
the first one, but the perspective is very different. This time, an interview in the video is
something I considered. Interviewing a local farmer can share his thoughts on
his daily life and briefs us with his ideas on the environment. My plan is to
interview my grandfather, as he is a farmer himself. During the interview,
B-Roll shots are to be added in the background while the interview is being
conducted. B-roll shots are to include environment relations, such as the
Mediterranean Sea, cleaned public gardens, our exquisite rocks and litter
thrown in public. In this way, we will be looking to preserve and conserve the
environment.
